Channel Islands Maritime Museum, Oxnard, CA.—The museum has officially opened its newly renovated Civil War naval exhibition. Exhibitions and Collections Manager Olivia Williamson says, “Some folks are still unaware that the West had such a heavy effect on the outcome of the Civil War. We want to shed light on the role California played, in both positive and negative capacities. We hope the new exhibit will encourage our guests to thoughtfully examine how California influenced such a critical time in our country’s history.” In addition to the collection of Ironclad models, this rendition of the exhibit will feature several new items from local collector Derek Manov, including a piece of the original armor of USS Monitor, and a Confederate naval cutlass. Both Derek Manov and model builder Steve Lund will be at the new exhibit’s opening reception on July 12 at the maritime museum, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Manov will bring several rare and never-before-seen artifacts, and Lund will be giving a compelling presentation on the ironclad USS Camanche and its involvement in California history. Visit the museum for a memorable experience.
