Duppstadt Lecture on CSN Lt. Francis Lyell Hoge, November 9, 2019, Kinston, North Carolina.—

Andrew Duppstadt, author of the recent article about Confederate States Navy officer, Lt. Frances L. Hoge, in the Fall 2019 issue of Civil War Navy—The Magazine (Volume 7, No. 2, p 39-47), adapted the article into presentation form and delivered it for the first time on Saturday, November 9 at the 2019 Annual North Carolina Maritime History Conference, which was held at the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center in Kinston, NC. This year’s conference attracted 49 people and included 13 presentations covering a wide range of topics related to North Carolina’s maritime history, archaeology, and preservation. Duppstadt was also part of a panel discussion about the North Carolina-built Confederate ironclads, during which he discussed the history of the CSS Neuse (see his article in Winter 2018 issue of Civil War Navy—The Magazine, Volume 5, No. 2, p 14-22). Duppstadt serves on the Board of the North Carolina Maritime History Council, which conducts this annual conference at various locations around eastern North Carolina, and he served as local arrangements chair for this year’s conference.
